I have been teaching English since 1989 in many different countries, (Spain, England, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and several South American countries). I have worked mainly in Barcelona, Spain at the British Council, and I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I am a university graduate, and also qualified with both the RSA/Cambridge Certificate and Diploma in the teaching of English as a foreign language.
I have also worked for many years as an IELTS examiner, (writing and speaking papers), and as a Cambridge speaking examiner (1st Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency). I therefore have a lot of experience in teaching classes that specifically prepare students to take these exams.
Apart from the exam focus, I have mainly taught general English and also business English. My main area of interest in terms of English teaching are those lessons in which the focus is on developing speaking fluency and conversation. At the end of each activity in these classes I always make sure to give a lot of feedback and correction of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation errors.
Just so you know a little about me, I am from Leicestershire, in the middle of England but also spent a lot of my youth in London. My interests outside work are sport and music. I am a long distance runner (marathons, half-marathons) and I also love swimming and cycling. I am also very passionate about playing the guitar and blues harmonica, and have played with many bands here in Barcelona and also in Hong Kong.
